Even though we live in a contemporary era hundreds of years distant from a period when most people thought magic ruled the world, there is a tiny portion of us that still have superstitious ideas from our ancestors. Our minds automatically go to the dark part of our brain that is prepared to give credence to the fantastic whenever weird things happen around us. And nowhere does our mind do this more than when we think about death. Even the most rational individuals may nonetheless arouse dread and inspire faith in humanity’s ultimate big mystery. For instance, consider the father in this joke. This is a sensible dad who starts to believe his daughter possesses superhuman abilities.
When his three-year-old daughter finished her prayers, her father read her a tale and listened to her close them with “God bless Mommy, God bless Daddy, God bless Grandma, and goodbye Grandpa.”
“Why did you say goodbye grandfather?” the father questioned.
“I don’t know Dad, it just sounded like the thing to do,” the little child remarked. The next day, Grandpa passed away. The father considered it an odd coincidence.
A few months later, the girl’s father put her to bed and listened to her pleas, which included, “Goodbye, Grandma, and God bless Mommy and Daddy.” The grandma passed away the next day.
The dad said, “Holy crap, this child is in contact with the other side.”
A few weeks later, the father heard his daughter say, “God bless Mommy and goodbye Daddy,” as she was putting herself to sleep.
He nearly lost consciousness. He was up at the crack of dawn to get to his workplace since he couldn’t sleep at all that night. All day he was as anxious as a cat, ate lunch and kept an eye on the time. He reasoned that he would be alright if he could survive till midnight. Rather than leaving the workplace at the end of the day, he lingered there, drinking coffee, checking his watch, and leaping at every noise because he felt secure there. When midnight finally arrived, he exhaled a sigh of relief and headed home.
“I’ve never seen you work so late,” his wife said when he arrived home. What’s wrong? “I had the worst day of my life; I don’t want to talk about it,” he said. “You think you had a bad day?” she said. You won’t believe what transpired with me. The mailman died on our porch this morning!
Kindly be sure to tell your friends and family about this joke.
