Arguments between family members over a loved one’s things occur often. It may grow so terrible that those who intended to receive may disagree.
A woman related a story about her mother and the present she left behind after her death.
The woman began her narrative by explaining that she was the one who looked after her ailing mother. The lady wrote: “Mom was always my best friend, so of course I was going to be there for her through this whole thing.”
However, while she was always there for her mother, her selfish brother and aunts only visited when they needed something, which was generally money to pay their expenses.
“While my mom was slowly getting worse, one aunt asked my mom’s “contacts” to help her find a new home. Because my mom ran a real estate business. “They were so cheeky,” the woman wrote.
Sadly, her mother passed away.
The woman remembers when her mother’s will was scheduled to be read. Her brother, aunts, and the lawyer representing her late mother were all sitting in the room, which resembled a scenario from a Hallmark movie.
“As the lawyer dropped the bomb, I drank weak tea from a cracked teacup. My mother accumulated a large sum of money—approximately $5 million—and wanted to give it to my brother and aunts. I pushed down my drink, trying to figure out what was going on. Since I did not receive anything. Zip. Nada.“
“Not a thing,” the woman said.
Tears began to pour from her eyes, and mascara landed on her skirt. Her brother and aunts couldn’t keep the grin off their faces.
“I thought, ‘How on earth could my mother have wounded me?’ I thought as I wiped my nose with my palm. The unfortunate lady kept questioning herself, “As a classic overthinker, I began to wonder whether I cared enough for her during those last months.”
After that, she observed the lawyer approach her and hand her an envelope.
When the woman examined the paper, she noticed an address printed on it. She did not grasp what was going on.
At first, she assumed it was the location of a storage facility her mother wanted her to clear out. The lawyer was the only one who remained silent. He did nothing except assure her that her mother loved her best.
When the woman arrived at the address, she discovered that her mother had given her a gorgeous house. The home in front of her was like something out of a fairy tale. They also planted flowers in the yard that the woman adored.
“My mom knew that my brother and aunts were the ones who spent the most money.” She did, however, want me to have a home to raise a family and build a future. The woman continued her narrative, saying, “To make new memories in a place that has her spirit.”
Another letter on the kitchen table in this new house stated that the mother handed the money to her son and sister with the expectation that they would spend it as soon as they got their hands on it. However, she did this to teach them the importance of family, something they would most likely learn the hard way after squandering all of their money.
“But now that I’m in my new kitchen and drinking coffee from the coffee machine I’ve always wanted, I know that my mom’s love was never about money—no.” I knew this gift would mean more to me than anything else since it occurred in this house.
“Hey, Mom?” “You still know the best.”
