Mother makes a troubling find on the restaurant receipt and calls police.

A waitress uses a forged tip to commit credit card fraud.

A Startling Finding

When a woman from Roanoke, Virginia, discovered that a waitress at a nearby restaurant had embezzled money from her by falsifying a gratuity, she became furious. Whitney Anderson, the client, discovered an unauthorized charge in her bank account, which led to the discovery of the occurrence.

Telling a Story

Whitney Anderson shared her terrible experience on Facebook in an effort to spread notice of the occurrence. Her tweet went viral very quickly, bringing credit card fraud and dishonest business practices in the service sector to light.

“So, my partner and I had dinner at Abuelo’s in Roanoke last night. I wrote my name and we left a $10 tip on 45, totaling $55.40. The blank customer copy was still in the book when I took it out. When I called the manager after seeing that we had been charged $65.40 in my bank account today, he informed me that’s what we had written. I insisted on seeing the receipt as I drove out there.

The server then destroyed my receipt (the copy that the merchant had sent), filled out the copy that the customer had received, and faked a signature that doesn’t even like mine. Really, I mean it. I mean, she could have tried signing my last name, Anderson.

The manager just told me he would return my $10 that she had stolen in less than ten business days after I phoned corporate, and they promised to get back to me in that time frame. The fact that this is fraud and larceny goes much beyond the $10!

After 11 years of service, I’ve seen that a lot of individuals leave their receipts blank, but I’ve never considered filling it out and using a fake signature! That this establishment is letting someone so dishonest handle money and people’s credit cards and is doing nothing about it disgusts me.

At this point, the cops get involved. Who knows how long she has been taking advantage of folks who most likely don’t frequently check their bank accounts?

Likened to Fraud on Credit Cards

Whitney Anderson was adamant that the waitress had virtually altered the tip amount without her permission, making the falsified receipt resemble credit card theft.

“They go behind you and fraudulently sign a name on a credit card receipt, and it was almost a 25 [percent] tip,” the woman claimed. “I don’t think that’s any different than having your debit card stolen.”

The Restaurant’s Reaction

The managers of the restaurant called Anderson right away to apologize and extend an opportunity to make amends by returning the full amount of her bill. This instance, however, calls into question the honesty of service industry procedures and emphasizes the necessity for stronger security measures to shield clients from credit card theft and illegal transactions.

Fraud using credit cards is a grave transgression that can have dire repercussions for both consumers and companies. Establishments must take action to stop these kinds of things from happening and to guarantee the safety and confidence of their customers.

To resolve the matter as soon as possible, it is imperative that you notify the restaurant management and, if required, the authorities if you come across a similar circumstance in the future.
