Elvis Presley gained fame not only for his incredible music career and unique voice that captivated audiences worldwide.
He was also admired for his sense of food and fashion (blue suede shoes, anyone?).
What many might not realize is that the rock star was also a talented designer. A great example of this is the King of Rock’s iconic personal airplane.
In 1962, Elvis Presley purchased his own plane and had it customized to meet his preferences.
You can immediately sense the luxury inside from the carpet, hardwood paneling, and rich crimson velvet seats.
Following Elvis’s death in 1977, the Lockheed Jetstar he owned for nearly 30 years remained unused. Eventually, it was placed along a road in Roswell, New Mexico, as a tourist attraction.
Recently, the jet was sold at an auction in Florida for $260,000 to a phone bidder who identified as an Elvis fan
Elvis and his father, Vernon Presley, were aboard the jet during its maiden flight.
More than thirty years after Elvis’s early passing, the plane has stayed in the same spot in New Mexico. If you take a closer look, you’ll see its exterior is painted a subdued red. Despite its age, the plane remains in fairly good condition.
Take a look inside… I’ll say this: I wouldn’t mind spending a long journey on this plane. It perfectly matches the style I imagined for the King of Rock.
The walls are covered in wood paneling, and the seats are wrapped in soft crimson velvet.
Of course, the plane features a “high-tech” television. The interior consists of just one spacious room.
The seating looks to be of excellent quality, with plenty of room for guests. Just behind the main area, there’s a small kitchen.
Take a look at the microwave, for instance. Given its age, I doubt it still works. Still, imagine Elvis rising from his seat, heading to the kitchen, and preparing one of his famous sandwiches—peanut butter, mayonnaise, crispy bacon, and banana—before popping it into the microwave. Classic Elvis!
And check out the bathroom! Naturally, there’s more velvet and a nicer sink. Compared to the tight spaces on typical charter flights, this is quite spacious.
It’s not too bad, right? I’m glad I got a sneak peek at Elvis’s perfect idea of vacation comfort.
At present, the plane sold for $260,000 at auction. The sale took place on January 8 at the Mecum Kissimmee Collector Vehicle Auction in Florida.
The new buyer made anonymous bids by phone.
