An additional loss for the Bryant family.

We announce with great sadness that Joe Bryant,69, has passed away. Joe Bryant, who is recognized for both his outstanding basketball career and his impact on the game, has left a legacy that will always be treasured. The basketball community comes together once more to remember a beloved icon as we grieve his passing.

Joe Bryant, often fondly called “Jellybean,” was a well-respected member of the basketball community in addition to being a former professional player. Originating from Philadelphia, he demonstrated his skill and love for the game while playing collegiate basketball from 1973 to 1975 at La Salle University.


The Golden State Warriors picked Joe Bryant with the 14th overall choice in the 1975 NBA draft. He played for several clubs during his career, such as the Houston Rockets, San Diego Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. Because of his abilities, Joe Bryant was able to play professional basketball in Italy. His time on the court was full of memorable experiences and many achievements.

From 1993 to 1996, Joe Bryant served as a member of the coaching staff at La Salle University following his retirement from competition. His knowledge and commitment left a deep impression on the young athletes he trained there. The La Salle University men’s basketball team acknowledged Joe Bryant’s importance in their basketball family and sent their sincere sympathies. He was a much-loved and esteemed person.

The corridors of Bartram High School, La Salle University, and the Philadelphia 76ers will always bear witness to his legacy.

Only a few months have passed since the terrible deaths of Joe Bryant’s granddaughter Gianna Bryant and son Kobe Bryant in a helicopter accident. The Bryant family is in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time. They have experienced unspeakable loss. Two amazing people have left the basketball world, and their influence and talents will always be valued.
