The 81-year-old business magnate and television producer is the oldest woman to ever grace the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s annual 2023 issue.
She was one of four models picked for the cover of the magazine, which also featured Megan Fox, Kim Petras, and Brooks Nader.
The founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia flaunted her magnificent figure in 10 different swimsuits and described ‘appearing for the publication’ as a historic occasion for her and other older ladies.
“I don’t think about age very much, but I thought that this is kind of historic and that I better look really good,” she said.
She was photographed in the Dominican Republic by the highly great photographer Ruven Afanador, a long-time contributor to Vogue, The New York Times, Elle, and Vanity Fair.
When asked about her experience with the magazine, Stewart stated that she doesn’t think much about her age, but it was a ‘huge deal’ for her to be featured on the cover at her age.
When I heard that I was going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I thought, “Oh, that’s pretty good, I’m going to be the oldest person, I think, ever on a cover of Sports Illustrated,”‘ she said.
“Age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship or in terms of success, but what people do, how people think, how people act, that’s what’s important and not your age,” she added.
Ms. Stewart, who has also written multiple best-selling books and hosted two syndicated TV series, spoke to Today following her shoot and described it as a challenge.
“For me, it is a testament to good living”‘ she said. “I think that all of us should think about good living, successful living, and not about aging. The whole aging thing is so boring.”
The mother of one and grandma of two also discussed her fitness quest before to the shoot, stating that she wanted to look her best on the cover of the magazine.
“I didn’t starve myself, but I didn’t eat any bread or pasta for a couple months. I went to Pilates every other day,” she admitted. “I live a clean life anyway. Good diet and good exercise and healthy skin care and all of that stuff, but it was kind of fun.”
Martha also quipped that it was a little ‘weird’ to pose in front of everyone wearing swimwear, but everything worked out ‘OK’ in the end.
