My husband Mark told me he had to work on a Saturday, and that’s when it all began. I was disappointed, but not insensitive, so I decided to enjoy a peaceful day and spend some time by myself. I had no idea that this would be a pivotal moment in my life.
I was reading a book when Mark’s best friend Tom sent me a message. I chose to listen to the message because I was too curious to resist. I was shocked when Tom told me about a double date at Coachella. I was perplexed because Mark had never brought it up.
I headed to Coachella, a gorgeously designed outdoor restaurant, following my instincts. I asked to be seated at a private table facing the door, hoping that my suspicions would be confirmed. Regretfully, my worries came true as Mark entered the room with Tom and his spouse, Sasha, accompanied by an attractive woman.
I was feeling conflicted, but I knew that action rather than tears was what was needed. I called for the waiter and requested him to bring Mark’s table the best champagne. My determination was further strengthened by witnessing Mark’s laughter upon receiving the champagne.
I took a risk and uploaded a picture of Mark and the other woman to Facebook, tagging him in the image. His face flushed with alarm as he received the notification, frantically looking around the room for me. I took the chance to give him the message I wanted to deliver.
I made another call to the waiter, placed another order for champagne, and scribbled a note saying goodbye on a piece of paper. “To a memorable double date and our divorce, cheers!” was written on it. I walked out of the restaurant with my head up high and headed back home.
A few hours later, Mark came home, packed his things, and said he was just having fun and hadn’t intended to cheat. I knew it was time to move on because I refused to listen to his falsehoods. Mark went to Tom’s apartment for comfort while I completed the required paperwork for a divorce.
